Figures of merit for a stochastic gravitational-wave background measurement by LISA: Implications of LISA Pathfinder noise correlations

چکیده

An important goal of the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) is to observe a stochastic gravitational-wave background (SGWB). A study possible correlated noise in LISA relevant establish limits for this future measurement. To test investigation methods under somewhat realistic conditions, we use data Pathfinder (LPF). We calculate coherence between LPF differential acceleration two test-masses with magnetic fields, temperature, and micronewton cold gas thruster activity spacecraft. apply our observed correlations LISA, estimate how presence such would affect its search SGWB. In context figure merit, effect on SGWB search.

Detecting an anisotropic gravitational wave background with LISA∗

We address the problem of detecting a stochastic background originated by an anisotropic population of sources, like the galactic binaries, by exploiting the amplitude modulation of the signal as the antenna changes its orientation with respect to fixed stars. This modulation, if observed, could help in discriminating the background generated by galactic binaries from the isotropic gravitationa...

LISA measurement of gravitational wave background anisotropy: Hexadecapole moment via a correlation analysis

1550-7998=20 We discuss spatial fluctuations in the gravitational wave background arising from unresolved Galactic binary sources, such as close white dwarf binaries, due to the fact the galactic binary source distribution is anisotropic. We introduce a correlation analysis of the two data streams of the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) to extract spherical harmonic coefficients of the...

The LISA Pathfinder mission

In this paper, we describe the current status of the LISA Pathfinder mission, a precursor mission aimed at demonstrating key technologies for future spacebased gravitational wave detectors, like LISA. Since much of the flight hardware has already been constructed and tested, we will show that performance measurements and analysis of these flight components lead to an expected performance of the...

Sub-Femto-g Free Fall for Space-Based Gravitational Wave Observatories: LISA Pathfinder Results.

We report the first results of the LISA Pathfinder in-flight experiment. The results demonstrate that two free-falling reference test masses, such as those needed for a space-based gravitational wave observatory like LISA, can be put in free fall with a relative acceleration noise with a square root of the power spectral density of 5.2±0.1  fm s^{-2}/sqrt[Hz], or (0.54±0.01)×10^{-15}  g/sqrt[Hz...

Capacitance Position Sensor for LISA Noise Measurement

This paper discusses two techniques investigated for use in a capacitance-based position sensor for the Eöt-Wash LISA noise measurement. The advantages and disadvantages of both techniques are reviewed and some elementary mathematical analysis is presented. A prototype implementation based on the more successful of the two techniques has been constructed.
